A significant winter storm is headed our way that could dump up to 40 centimetres of snow to some areas.
A Winter Weather Travel Advisory is in effect for most of Simcoe-Muskoka, where we could see about 10-15cms by the end of Monday, while a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the several other areas including: Orillia, Washago, Innisfil, Angus, Haliburton, Toronto, Niagara and the Ottawa regions with 30-40 cms possible.
Environment Canada says snow will fall heavily at times, with rates of a few centimetres per hour possible.
Winds are also expected to gust up to 50 km/hr, causing poor visibility on the roads due to blowing snow.
Motorists should give themselves plenty of extra time to get to their destination and adjust their driving habits to the conditions.
This dangerous winter storm called “Izzy” by The Weather Channel has already swept through parts of the U.S. Southeast, knocking out power to tens of thousands of customers in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida, while highway patrols responded to hundreds of vehicle accidents, and a tornado is believed to have ripped through a trailer park in Florida.
