A Springwater resident has lost $8000 in a grandparent scam. Huronia West OPP say
the woman received a phone call Dec. 7 from a person posing as her grandson, saying he’d been in a collision and needed the money to pay a bondsman to settle the matter.
She withdrew the money, returned home, and a scammer showed up at her door and collected the cash.
Only after speaking to her grandson she realize she’d been a victim of a crime.
Police say the fraudsters learn personal info about families through social media, and on-line obituaries.
If you receive a call for help they advise you confirm by calling back your family member. And if you have any doubts, call police.
