New COVID-19 projections show that cases in Ontario are rising and that vaccinating young children, along with increased public health measures will help keep numbers down.
According to the data, cases could reach 3,000 new cases a day by December’s end – that’s with no change in contacts and only 30 percent of children aged 5 to 11 being vaccinated.
Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health says there’s no doubt that the months ahead will require continued vigilance.
“The science table’s modelling released today has shown us that cases continue to rise even without the omicron variant factored in and while hospitalization and ICU admissions are currently stable – they too will grow,” he said.
If 50 per cent of the child age group referenced are vaccinated within the same time frame, cases could be just above 1,500 per day.
And if there are a 15 per cent contacts decrease via more strict public health measures plus a 30 per cent vaccination rate of young children, cases might be around 1,000 cases.
