Georgian College alumni have donated $20,000 to the new nursing program set to begin in Owen Sound and Barrie in 2022.
As a part of the global Giving Tuesday donation campaign back on November 30th, Georgian College launched a one-day digital appeal through the ‘Grizzlies Give Back’ program, asking alumni to support student success initiatives. (The Grizzlies represent Georgian’s varsity athletics).
This included Georgian’s ‘Frontline Support: Health-care Heroes Closer to Home’ campaign, which is focused on raising funds for new equipment and learning environment enhancements tied to the new Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing degree.
A release from the college says in just 12 hours, more than $20,000 was raised against a one-day goal of $10,000.
Johnson Insurance provided matching dollars as part of the campaign.
Jamie Campbell, Manager, Alumni Engagement, Annual and Legacy Giving says in a statement, “Today, we are so grateful to our alumni who stepped up and answered the call for help to support our students and the education of our nurses,” adding, “We are so proud of our graduates who made the choice to pay the opportunity of an education forward to a generation of students who are coming behind them.”
Georgian and a team of volunteers are working to raise more than $3 million in new support to educate and train future nurses through the Frontline Support campaign.
The Owen Sound Campus is undergoing a $7.1-million upgrade to create a 9,200 square foot nursing and wellness wing, which will include the latest simulation technology, artificial intelligence capabilities and healthcare equipment to provide students and others with real-life learning and training experience.
