New COVID-19 cases in Simcoe-Muskoka have reached a new milestone- surpassing the provincial average for the first time in the pandemic.
As a result, our Medical Officer of Health is very concerned about the substantial rise in local infections.
Dr .Charles Gardner says we’ve had nearly as many cases in November as occurred in both September and October combined.
So far this month, 12 people in the region have died after contracting the virus and the latest victim was reported on Wednesday.
The health unit says the latest victim to succumb to the virus was a Barrie woman between 45 and 64 years old.
It also reported 60 new cases of COVID-19 in its latest update, while an additional 45 local cases have also screened positive as the Delta variant.
Dr. Gardner said nearly 7-thousand local kids between 5-11 have booked an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine in Simcoe-Muskoka, with some starting as early as Friday.
