Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “,….. proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.
Pete’s Auto Body; because we care about our community….
A year ago I got involved with Landmark Stables, a sort of coop ownership group in harness racing.
For $ 2,000 it gives you a tiny share of a handful of race horses with the hope that the scouting, training and guidance, primarily from Mark Steacy will pay off to a certain degree.
If nothing else it gives you the authentic feel of be a race horse owner.
Well, the feeling I got from the half dozen horses in the Landmark 14 stable wasn’t warm & fuzzy.
Energizer De Vie, Brazen Seelster, Century Invader, Creed Hanover & Calm Cool Collectd were all injured, sick or unable to complete fully as 2 year olds.
The 6th horse, Suellen Hanover, showed some promise, but under the guidance of the operators, she too, was shut down late in the season.
Maybe as 3 year olds this group of 6 will perform up to expectations and heighten the enjoyment of the promotion.
Normally, whether we’re talking cards, craps or horses, I fold the case when things don’t go my way.
Undaunted, I ponied up another 2 Grand this year and am part of Landmark 15.
This stable of 2 year olds currently features Bettor B Bold, Century Jamila, Champagne Bettina, Dance With Tabby along with a horse called EmotionallyInclined.
The chief operators didn’t think EmotionallyInclined was a terrific name for a race horse, so they had a contest among the shareholders to pick a new name.
Among the more than 70 possibilities submitted were Landmark Delight, Bettor Than Most, Straight Arrow, Life Of The Party, Landmark Star & Lord Lansdowne
My submission for the new name was….. Playertobenamedlater.
Whatever they decide, here’s hoping the 2022 race season is a winning one for both Landmark 14 & Landmark 15
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
