Owen Sound Police say they made two impaired driving arrests on Halloween, while kids were out trick-or-treating.
Police say just before 6 pm, they were contacted by a concerned citizen who said they had seen two people passed out in a vehicle stopped in the 100 block of 11th Street West.
Officers reportedly arrived to find a man passed out in the driver’s seat and his female passenger asleep in the passenger seat.
According to police, they found the man to be very disoriented, not knowing what community he was in.
While speaking with him, police say they observed suspected meth, fentanyl and drug paraphernalia in the cab of the vehicle.
He was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Owen Sound Police station where they say a Drug Recognition Evaluator conducted tests and determined the male to be impaired by drugs.
Police say further investigation revealed the 40-year-old Thornbury area man was wanted by the OPP on two outstanding warrants and that his driver’s licence was suspended. His vehicle has been impounded for 45 days and his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days. He was released from custody with a court date for later this month.
Police say at the time of the incident, officers observed dozens of children trick-or-treating in the area. Thankfully, no one was injured.
About two hours later, police responded to a report of a collision at the intersection of 9th Avenue and 8th Street East.
They say their investigation revealed a 68-year-old Owen Sound man proceeded northbound on 9th Avenue East, before the traffic light turned green and collided with a westbound vehicle.
The investigating officer detected the odour of alcohol on the male driver’s breath. They say he failed a roadside breath test and was subsequently arrested.
He has been charged with impaired driving as well as charges under the Highway Traffic Act and Cannabis Control Act.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the collision.
