IODE Poppy Installation, commemorating 120 Years of the IODE.
A special Remembrance Day display will be in front of the Huron County Museum this year.
The museum has announced a partnership with the IODE Maple Leaf Chapter in Goderich to commemorate the IODE’s 120th anniversary by draping poppies over the Museum’s Sherman Tank.
The IODE was started 120 years ago, to help during the Boer War, and the group has since supported Canadian war efforts in a variety of ways.
The Sherman Tank is one of several pieces of historic weaponry on the museum grounds, including a LAV III tank brought to the facility in 2016.
To celebrate the IODE’s special anniversary, the local chapter spearheaded a project to crochet and knit over 3,000 poppies that will be sewn onto netting and draped over the tank as a tribute to Canada’s fallen soldiers from Oct. 28-Nov. 11, 2021.
