The Owen Sound Attack and London Knights meet for the 4th time tonight in the Ontario Hockey League season with a 7 pm start at the JD McArthur Arena.
The Knights have won all 3 head-to-head games to this point and if you check certain segments of their fan base and their media contingent, a 4th straight victory is almost a certainty.
If you check with certain segments of the Attack fan base and their media contingent, they’ll say ‘ wait a minute ‘; London has won all 3 games by 1 goal; once in a shootout, once on a goal in the last 5 minutes and once on a stunning reversal of momentum highlighted by a shorthanded breakaway goal.
If you ask me, here’s what I guarantee tonight- a video review.
In the last 3 Attack games, the contest has been delayed at length by reviews of scoring plays.
At Windsor last Thursday, Deni Goure tied the game at 3 but not officially until a long review of whether the play was offside or not was conducted. The verdict was no offside, tie game.
It’s notable that after the delay, Windsor scored the go ahead goal 53 seconds later and were never headed. Did the video review kill Owen Sound momentum ? You can debate that.
The following night at London, another marker from Deni Goure that would have given the Attack a 2-1 lead was reviewed and then waived off with the video evidence that Stepan Machacek had bumped London netminder Brett Brochu. Again, there’s a half dozen interpretations of what happened and what should or should not have been called.
And then Saturday night in Owen Sound, Windsor’s Matthew Maggio scored on a sequence in which Attack netminder Mack Guzda was bumped by Kyle McDonald. The sequence that followed was video review, ” good goal “, Coach’s Challenge by Owen Sound and then ” no goal ”
So tonight do the Knights move to 7 & 0 ?
Or do the Attack halt their losing skid against London ?
My bet is on video review factoring into the affair
Game time is 7 pm
