Hanover Police are thanking a citizen for putting himself in harms way and helping out an officer in a recent arrest.
According to Hanover Police Chief Christopher Knoll, a 32-year-old Chesley man was arrested in the downtown core of the town Sunday afternoon after a foot chase that ended with a citizen walking his dog tackling the suspect.
Knoll says in a social media post the suspect was found in possession of a smoke grenade, brass knuckles and break-in tools. The accused had multiple warrants for his arrest for various crimes in two policing jurisdictions.
The 32-year-old Chesley man faces 30 charges, including extortion, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, weapons offences, break and enters and possession of break-in tools.
“The citizen who put himself in harms way was identified and thanked for rendering his assistance to the involved HPS officer,” Knoll says. “Our local communities are safer today because of his actions.”
The suspect remains in custody for a bail hearing.
No one was injured during the arrest.
