Over 15-hundred charges have been laid during the OPP’s Operation Impact.
Police say a majority of the charges were for speeding and stunt racing.
During the four-day initiative, officers conducted targeted enforcement and provided education on alcohol/drug-impaired, aggressive and inattentive/distracted driving, as well as lack of seatbelt use – all main causes of death and injury on our roadways.

Excessive speeds continue to threaten the safety of all road users with a nearly 70% increase in speed-related road deaths in Central Region in 2021, compared to this time last year. Already this year, 34 people have died on OPP Central Region patrolled roadways, of which 10 deaths were speed-related, 6 alcohol/drug-related, 6 seatbelt-related, 2 inattentive-related and 5 motorcyclists lost their lives.
ORILLIA-The OPP also responded to five road fatalities over the Thanksgiving long weekend while conducting enforcement on highways and roads in support of the annual, national Operation Impact campaign.
The OPP laid 6,026 charges during the four-day traffic safety initiative that focused on aggressive drivers, motorists under the influence of alcohol/drugs, inattentive/distracted drivers and vehicle occupants who were not buckled up.
Aggressive driving led the list of offences, with 4,595 speeding charges and 109 racing/stunt driving charges.
Other offences resulted in 269 seatbelt, 102 impaired driving, and 94 distracted driving charges.
These latest fatal road collisions bring the number of fatalities on OPP-patrolled roads to 218.

SOUTH GEORGIAN BAY-Over the October 8-13, 2021 timeframe, 123 drivers were ticketed with speeding violations, 14 drivers were ticketed for other traffic violations along with two drivers found to be driving while under suspension. As well, one driver registered a 3-Day suspension on the Roadside Screening Device (ASD) and one impaired driver as follows were removed from North Simcoe area roadways.
Uniform OPP officers responded at 10:29 p.m. October 8, 2021 to a request from security personnel of a possible impaired driver getting onto the MV Sandy Graham car ferry at Cedar Point, Beausoleil First Nations. Attending officers located the suspect vehicle and driver blocked in on the ferry deck and entered into an impaired driving investigation upon speaking with the lone driver. A search of the driver during the investigation also netted officers a quantity of Cocaine.
As a result of this investigation Chad Myles KING 36 years of Christian Island has been charged with the following offences;
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
- Operation while impaired – drugs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
The accused was released on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on November 18, 2021 and is subject to the 90 day licence suspension and vehicle impoundment under the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines
