Collingwood is getting a new school crossing guard today.
They will be on duty at the Hurontario Street crossing by the Hamilton Drain Trail temporarily, until the new mid-block pedestrian signal is installed sometime in late December.
The crossing guard will be posted at this location Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:25 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and again from 3:25 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
A reminder to drivers, according to the Highway Traffic Act, where a school crossing guard displays a school crossing stop sign, the driver of any vehicle approaching the school crossing guard shall stop before reaching the crossing and shall remain stopped until all persons, including the school crossing guard, have cleared the roadway and it is safe to proceed. Failure to comply with this requirement could result in a fine being issued to the operator of the vehicle.
Town of Collingwood crossing guards are dedicated and compassionate, they seek to ensure that everyone arrives at their destination safely. Crossing guards endure all weather conditions rain or shine, and oftentimes sub-zero temperatures. Parents are asked to teach their children to obey the crossing guard’s instructions for their own safety.
