Almost 200 pieces of litter have been removed from portions of Georgian Bay.
Georgian Bay Forever (GBF) and its volunteers have done the first ‘sort’ of litter captured by 2 trash-trapping devices installed by the Township of Georgian Bay in partnership with the Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup.
In this first ‘sort’, GBF volunteers meticulously picked through 6 kilograms of debris and carefully recorded and diverted 188 pieces of litter that weighed about 146 grams.
The biggest trash find was 163 pieces of foam.
The volunteers and GBF staff sorters also found plastic film (wrappers), unidentifiable hard fragments of plastic, cloth, twist ties, and cigarette butts.
