With the Major League Baseball season coming to the climatic final week of the regular season, with the Jays hosting a crucial 6 game homestand starting tonight against the Yankees, we received an interesting local note last week from Ryan Bartley.
Back in the region, Bartley has expressed a desire to operate a Senior Men’s Baseball team in Owen Sound for 2022.
The proposed team would play in the North Dufferin Baseball League, a circuit with close to a dozen clubs, located in Dufferin, Simcoe and Grey Counties.
The application process for acceptance is not underway, but the first step towards returning Senior Baseball to Owen Sound is set for tonight at Tom Williams Park.
The proposed Owen Sound entry will be holding an Open Tryout tonight at Tom Williams for any ball player aged 17 or over starting at 6:30 pm.
A second tryout will be conducted on Sunday October 3rd at 1 pm.
If you need information about the club or tryouts, call Ryan Bartley at 705-896-4533.
The tryouts are designed to gauge the interest level and plant the seeds for the application process that will come later in the year.
Ryan Bartley doesn’t have a name for the proposed Owen Sound franchise, but he notes that’s a step for further up the ladder and the primary goal tonight, and in the week ahead, is to see if there are enough interested and capable players to field a competitive club in 2022 and return Senior Baseball to Owen Sound
