One new virus-related death and 45 additional COVID-19 cases have been reported in the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s first update from the weekend.
It says a woman from Tay Township between 45 and 64 years old died last Wednesday, Sept. 22 after contracting COVID-19.
Among the new cases, 30 involve unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals, and 7 of them are children.
Another 50 local cases have also screened positive as the highly contagious Delta variant.
The new cases include:

1 Collingwood
1 Wasaga Beach
2 Tay Township
1 Tiny Township
1 Essa
3 Innisfil
8 Bradford WG
7 New Tecumseth
1 Bracebridge
2 Gravenhurst
In addition, the update includes 37 newly resolved cases and 1 new hospitalization.
