The cause of a fire in Lake of Bays is under investigation, but firefighters say ammunition inside the home could have made the situation a lot worse.
Firefighters were called to a structure fire on Fieldale Road, just after 10 o’clock Monday night, when residents inside were watching TV and smelled smoke.
They called 9-1-1 and escaped the home safely.
Firefighters arrived and say at one point, ammunition inside the home reacted to the heat of the fire and ignited, so crews withdrew from the residence for their safety and put water on the blaze from a distance.
It took about three hours to get under control and damage is estimated at over half a million dollars.
There were no injuries.
