On Saturday there’s a marathon, a one man, or one teenager, marathon.
Jesse Walker from Georgian Bluffs will be running 42 kilometres as part of what’s become an annual tribute and fundraiser.
Walker who battled and beat cancer after being diagnosed with a medulla blastoma, decided a year ago to run for others, including relatives, who had been impacted by cancer.
In truth, he wanted to run a marathon last year, but as often happens to teenage boys, he was overruled by his mother, who did consent to a half marathon in 2020.
The fundraising initiative on Walker’s part a year ago was extremely modest.
He set a target of $ 1,000 for his half marathon.
But as word spread, he left that goal in the dust and ended up generating $ 28,000 for childhood cancer research.
Now, with parental consent, Walker will run a FULL Marathon.
He’ll start Saturday morning at Shallow Lake and weave his way east, then north to Wolseley and eventually will head south to his family home in Georgian Bluffs.
He hopes to complete the run in around 4 hours and his fundraising goal for the marathon is $ 10,000
