OPP have charged an 83-year-old Grey Highlands woman with two offences under the Highway Traffic Act in relation to a recent collision on Highway 6/10 that claimed the life of an off-duty police officer.
Emergency services responded to a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle on Highway 6/10 around 11:30 a.m. on July 23. The 55-year-old driver of the motorcycle was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The passenger on the motorcycle was also taken to hospital with serious injuries, described by OPP as non-life threatening.
The deceased was later identified as an off-duty police officer with the York Regional Police Service, Craig Heatley of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
Grey Bruce OPP have now charged an 83-year-old woman from Grey Highlands with careless driving causing death and careless driving causing bodily harm. Neither are criminal offences.
Provincial Police say in a release Grey Bruce OPP and the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team continue to investigate this incident.
