Georgian Bay Forever and Tay Township are looking for volunteers to help clear, cut and learn more about invasive phragmites.
When: Tuesday August 10 at 9:00 a.m.
Where: Waubaushene public Beach at the end of Pine St (*not Waubaushene Beaches Provincial Park)
All supplies for removing phragmites will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to wear long sleeves and pants for protections against ticks, as well as rubber boots.
Representatives from Georgian Bay Forever will be on site to provide guidance and instructions on how to best remove the invasive plant.
Anyone interested in volunteering can show up at the above location at 9am on August 10 or contact Nicole at Nicole.carpenter@gbf.org.
Invasive phragmites are an aggressive plant that spreads quickly and out-competes native species for water and nutrients, decreasing both plant and animal biodiversity where it grows. Learn more at www.gbf.org.
