Barrie Fire & Emergency Service will provide emergency dispatch to the City of Markham by the end of the year.
A news release from the city says with the addition of Markham, the Barre Fire and Emergency Service Communications Branch will serve 21 municipalities, including Barrie. Markham will be the City’s largest customer.
The release states the addition of Markham as a client will help offset capital and operating costs associated with maintaining the City’s communications and dispatch center, ultimately benefiting Barrie’s taxpayers.
In 2020, the Barrie center dispatched more than 21,250 emergency incidents in Barrie and client municipalities.
