South Bruce OPP say they continue to see excessive speeds on local roads.
Police say on July 17th at 2:31 a.m., an officer on patrol on Durham Street east in Walkerton, clocked a vehicle on radar at 114 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
After stopping the vehicle, the officer noted that the driver had been drinking alcohol. The driver was arrested and taken to the South Bruce OPP detachment for testing.
A 17-year-old resident of Arran-Elderslie was charged with Impaired driving, racing, being an unaccompanied novice driver – and in relation to that, driving at an unlawful hour.
On July 16th, just after 6 a.m. a 25 year old Brockton resident was clocked doing over 110km/h in a 50km/h zone on Durham Street East in Walkerton.
Later that day, just before 11:30 a.m., a 33-year-old resident of Kincardine was charged for doing over 140 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Highway 21 in Saugeen Township.
Back on July 10th just after 11:30 p.m. a 32-year-old London was ticketed for driving at more than 100 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone on Bruce Road 3 in Carrick Township
OPP say drivers are reminded that as of July 1st, 2021, on roads where the speed limit is posted at less than 80 km/h, driver’s caught at 40 km/h or more above the posted limit will be subject to a charge of Stunt Driving.
Another change effective July 1st, 2021, is the immediate vehicle impoundment has been increased to 14 days.
OPP say, “Remember, speeding not only increases your risk of becoming involved in motor vehicle collision, it increases your risk of being seriously injured in a motor vehicle collision.”
