Investigators say an accidental switching of a brake system is what prompted a train derailment in the town of Goderich.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) was called to the scene of the derailment near the town’s harbour on February 1st.
Several cars tipped from the tracks, damaging vehicles and outbuildings.
A report from the TSB found the locomotive engineer accidentally released the automatic brake handle when leaving the train momentarily.
According to the report, “the independent brakes of the 2 locomotives remained applied but could not hold the train.”
No one was injured in the derailment.
