Our community is a hotbed for lacrosse during normal times.
Unfortunately the pandemic delayed the arrival of the Major Lacrosse team in Owen Sound, the Bug Juice Seniors had their season cancelled and Minor & Field Lacrosse were thwarted as well.
The Junior B NorthStars have plans to operate a program starting this weekend with the potential of tournament play next month.
On another note, the Owen Sound Lacrosse Endowment Fund, which operates under the umbrella of the Community Foundation Grey Bruce had a very good year.
The Endowment Fund which was founded by Lorne Ainsworth, Terry King & John Pickett some years ago received almost $ 9,000 in donations over the last year. From the interest off the existing principal, the Endowment Fund was able to distribute $ 5,000 to a variety of lacrosse organizations in the city.
According to balance sheet, the Lacrosse Endowment Fund now has in excess of $ 60,000 which will perpetually generate interest to be utilized among the lacrosse community, primarily to offset the cost of floor time at the Owen Sound venues.
