Richard Branson has won the so-called “billionaire space race” and you could follow in his footsteps!
The almost 71-year-old entrepreneur went into space yesterday aboard his own winged rocket ship.
He beat out fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos, who also plans his own space flight on July 20th, the 52nd anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, but Branson has insisted he and Bezos are friendly rivals.
Branson and five crewmates from his Virgin Galactic space-tourism company reached an altitude of about 88 kilometers over the New Mexico desert, which was enough to experience three to four minutes of weightlessness and see the curvature of the Earth, before they safely glided to a runway landing.
Virgin Galactic already has more than 600 reservations from wannabe space tourists, who are due to take off next year, with tickets costing $250,000 apiece.
However, Branson also announced that he has partnered with the charity fundraising platform Omaze to give away two tickets for one of the VSS Unity’s first commercial flights in 2022.
You can enter through Aug. 31st and all donations will support the nonprofit Space for Humanity.
