On a beautiful day for baseball in Tara, the Tara Twins came away with 2 victories to kick off their season.
In the 11 o’clock game vs the Elmira Heat, the Twins spotted their opponents a 6 run lead in the first 3 innings.
But after some stellar pitching and defense settled the game down, the Twins set the stage for a wild comeback.
Anthony Klerks led off the 4th inning with a walk, followed by a double by Colton Hepburn. After 2 quick outs, Ethan Sopkowe came through with a clutch triple to cash the runners, and was brought in to score himself after a pair of singles from Landen McCartney and Waylon Greig.
In the bottom of the sixth, Morgan McPherson, Colton Cameron, Colton Hepburn and Nathan Miller all scored to give the Twins the lead, 7-6. Mason Bell had an RBI double to cash the tying and go ahead run.
Miller and Jackson Kuhl split the win, throwing 7 innings of 4 hit, 3 walk ball, with 5 strikeouts.
The 1 oclock game featured Elmira up again versus the Wilmot Thunder. Elmira got off to an early lead and came away with a big victory.
The 3 oclock game had the Twins back up against the Wilmot Thunder. The Twins came out swinging and scored 4 in the first inning. They scored another 5 in the second inning, thanks to a double from Mason Bell and a 2 rbi single from Landen McCartney.
With a sizeable lead, the Twins were on their way to a 12-5 victory. They were led by stellar pitching from Zak Hamilton and Ethan Sopkowe, and highlighted by a 2 rbi triple from Nathan Miller and a 2 rbi double by Hamilton.
Next up for the Twins is a double header Saturday July 17th in Elmira vs Elmira and PDP (Drumbo) Lightning. Followed up by another double header in Tara next Sunday, July 18th at 1130 vs Norwich Otters and 330 vs Tavistock A’s.
