A traffic stop in Orillia has led to drugs and counterfeit merchandise.
Police say a vehicle was stopped on the side of Barrie Road near downtown last Thursday night, when an officer spoke with the driver and began a drug investigation.
During the search, police say one of the suspects assaulted an officer in an attempt to flee in the vehicle, but both suspects were subsequently arrested.
Following the search, police say a quantity of cocaine, cash and a large number of what is believed to be counterfeit, brand name merchandise was located and seized.
As a result, Shamaree MURRAY, age 27, of Toronto, has been charged with:
- Flight from peace officer
Dangerous operation
Escape lawful custody
Five counts of assault a peace officer
Assault with intent to resist arrest
Assault a peace officer with a weapon
Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
Possession of illicit cannabis
Fail to comply with probation order
Mischief under $5000
In addition, Felicia VALIQUETTE, age 33, of Essa, has been charged with:
- Flight from peace officer
Escape lawful custody
Obstruct peace officer
Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
Possession of illicit cannabis
Both accused parties were held for bail hearings on July 09, 2021, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.
