The province has agreed to contribute $29.9 million to help pay for a new Simcoe/Muskoka YMCA Community Hub in downtown Barrie.
The facility will include childcare spaces, a youth centre with transitional housing and outreach support, rehab space for cardiac and cancer patients, and recreation areas for fitness programs.
The $40 million dollar centre is to be built on the former Barrie Central Collegiate property on Dunlop St.
The County of Simcoe and other supporters have also agreed to provide funding, and the Y is in the middle of a $10 million fundraising campaign.
