More details about Owen Sound’s Canada Day fireworks and virtual festivities have been released by the city.
Fireworks will light up the sky at 10 p.m. on July 1 and there are several viewing areas being promoted by the city to take them in. They include: the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre parking lot, the Kelso Beach parking lot, the Owen Sound Tourism parking lot and streets around the inner harbour.
The city advises fireworks spectators on land or boat must stay 175 metres clear of the pier in the Owen Sound Harbour.
The fireworks will also be showcased on Owen Sound’s Canada Day live stream. It begins at 2 p.m. and will include family entertainment and performances by local musicians. The stream will be accessible on the city’s Youtube and Tourism, Events and Attractions Facebook Page.
Among the kids’ activities appearing on the stream are an interactive groove dance party featuring Tyler Boyle and a magician: Rick Rossini’s AbraCANADAbra Magic show.
The Rob Elder Trio, The Honey Hammers and Victoria Yeh are some of the local musicians that will hit the digital stage as part of Owen Sound’s Canada Day virtual event.
July 1, 2021, will mark Canada’s 154th anniversary since confederation.
A release from the city says in Owen Sound’s celebration of Canada Day: “We think in particular about our responsibilities to truth and reconciliation with the Indigenous community. The dedication of the 10th Street Bridge as the Gitche Namewikwedong Bridge, which means Great Sturgeon Bay in Anishinaabemowin signifies a commitment to improved relationships, friendship, and respect with the Indigenous people.”
