The final supermoon of the year has been lighting up the sky this week.
A supermoon occurs when the moon is at its closest point to Earth in its orbit, which makes it appear slightly larger and brighter than a typical full moon.
The June full moon is called the strawberry moon, and was named by Native American tribes for the strawberries harvested during this time of year.
The full moon will reach peak illumination at 2:40 p.m. EST today, but won’t be visible until the sun sets just after 9 o’clock tonight.
