OPP has charged a Gravenhurst dog owner after their dog attacked another dog that died of its injuries.
Sunday at 8:30 pm, police responded to a complaint from a dog owner that their pet had been mauled and severely injured by another dog earlier that day on Phillip Street in Gravenhurst.
The injured pet was rushed to an emergency hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Officers conducted an investigation jointly with Gravenhurst By-Law officers and charged a 47-year-old Gravenhurst woman with the following:
- Owner of Dog – Fail to exercise reasonable precautions to prevent the dog from behaving in a manner that poses a menace to the safety of persons or domestic animals (Dog Owners Liability Act)
- Owner of Dog – Fail to prevent biting or attacking a person or domestic animal (Dog Owners Liability Act)
- Certificate of Offense – issued under the Dog Control By-law for allowing the offending dog to run at large.
Gravenhurst By-Law has also declared the offending dog a “dangerous dog” and issued a muzzle order.
The accused dog owner will appear in Provincial Offenses Court in Bracebridge on August 24th.
