It’s National Indigenous Peoples Day.
It is an opportunity for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage and diverse contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
On all of our stations today, we’ll be airing stories from Indigenous community leaders, elders, residential school survivors and more, which will run twice an hour until 6 tonight.
You will also hear about Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund, which aims to build cultural understanding and create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
Huronia Historical Parks (Midland/Penetanguishene) will be hosting National Indigenous Peoples Day online event, which will premiere live today and be available on-demand until Friday.
Meanwhile, a traditional Indigenous ceremony is planned in Memorial Park in Muskoka at 1 p.m. to honour residential school victims, especially the 215 Indigenous children found in an unmarked grave at a former school site in BC.
