The following is a statement from Mayor Nina Bifolchi:
“On behalf of council, I want to share my sorrow for the two lives lost this past weekend in Wasaga Beach. Our thoughts go out to all families affected.
I also want to follow up on last week’s media release dealing with the behavior of those visiting Wasaga Beach. We experienced more bad behaviour this weekend, as well as tragedy.
Bad behavior is being tolerated in our province and country and it needs to be called out.
When our government and our enforcement agencies are hesitant to react to certain situations because of retaliation, reprimand, fear for their safety or offending someone who is acting illegally or inappropriately, we have a huge a problem. Our enforcement agencies need our support to do their jobs.
I respect and care for all races, religions, sexual preferences and don’t care what your financial position is. Just be a decent human.
We want to have tourists come and experience our beautiful community, add to the diversity and culture, and to care for one another and the environment.
If you are unable to do that in a safe and positive manner, please stay home.”
-A Brampton man drowned off Wasaga Beach on Saturday and the OPP announced on Sunday that it is investigating a death in Beach Area 1. More details are posted in our News section.
