The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) is investigating after someone left rotting walleye carcasses near a power station on the south branch of the Muskoka River.
On May 21st, conservation officers responded to reports of abandoned walleye dumped in the river near the Ontario Power Generation station in the South Falls area of Bracebridge. Between April 1st and June 15th annually it’s a sanctuary for all fish which protects in part, spawning walleye.
Officers found 64 rotting walleye carcasses, some of which were left to waste whole.
There is also evidence to suggest that those responsible also trespassed on the power station’s property – there was litter too, including 13 AAA batteries discarded along the shore.
