Happy May 2-4 weekend!
It will be easy to tell how many people are obeying the province’s stay-at-home order later today, by judging the long weekend traffic.
Even though this is considered the first unofficial start to summer, the stay-at-home order is still in effect until June 2nd, in order to control the spread of COVID-19.
That means residents are supposed to stay home, unless for “essential” purposes, which include going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care, getting exercise or walking pets, or going to work that can’t be done remotely, but NOT the cottage.
Cottage visits are still restricted to under 24-hours for “essential purposes” or a minimum two-week stay.
Politicians and medical experts have warned Ontarians to avoid travelling for the time-being until more people are vaccinated and to prevent a possible fourth wave.
Starting tomorrow, outdoor gatherings of up to five people from different households will be permitted outdoors, but indoor socializing will still remain off-limits, at least for now.
Some outdoor recreational activities including golf courses, basketball courts and boat launches are also reopening Saturday. For the complete list, please click here.
Residents are asked to keep on physical distancing even when outside, and keep face masks handy when it’s not possible.
People who break the gathering rules can receive a $750 ticket, while the organizers of events and gatherings can be fined a minimum of $10,000.
The province has released its 3-Stage Roadmap to Reopening. For more details, please click here.
Meanwhile, the OPP will be stepping up enforcement on local roadways, making sure everyone celebrates safely and targeting the big four: impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and seatbelt use.
The virus can only move if we do. Regardless of vaccination status, please continue to abide by the stay-at-home order over the long weekend to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
