Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “,….. proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

The 103rd PGA Championship begins tomorrow in South Carolina.
Collin Morikawa is the defending champion and he’ll compete against a large field that includes Listowel native Corey Conners who is having a very steady and successful season.
Of course, it has to burn the Ontario golfer that the PGA of America is admitting 10,000 fans each day of the Championship.
TEN THOUSAND !!!
Week after week after week on Sunday afternoons during the provincial lockdown, I’ve watched the golf galleries in the United States grow.
Yet here in Ontario, 4 guys can’t tee off on a Sunday, or any day, at Legacy Ridge, or Scenic City, or Stone Tree or any of the great courses in our region.
It’s a blow to the golfer. And it’s a HUGE blow to the course owners who have invested massive dollars in their course and are seeing virtually no revenue stream as a reward.
Honestly, I’m hesitant to be overly critical of the provincial government and Ontario’s health professionals in this era because I firmly believe they’re looking out for our best interests.
But in the case of several activities, especially recreational golf and the horse racing industry, I think the restrictions are misguided and should be lifted……weeks ago.
I’ll watch the PGA Championship at South Carolina, but truthfully, I’d much rather walk any course in our region and chase my own ball.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
