Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “,….. proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

There was an unfortunate confirmation last week that Golf Ontario had cancelled the Men’s Mid-Amateur Qualifying event at Cobble Beach Golf Links.
Cobble Beach has successfully hosted the event for years and naturally are discouraged with the turn of events, but also mindful of the factors that led to the cancellation.
To the credit of Cobble Beach and all of the courses in our region, no one has defied the lockdown restriction on golf in the same manner that Bridges at Tillsonburg did.
That’s not to say that the local course owners and operators agree with the provincial restriction- I certainly don’t agree with it, so I can’t imagine that those within the industry who operate in Grey Bruce are supportive in any way other than the fact they’ve abided by the legislation.
Golf in our region, and across the country, was one of the few positive stories of 2020.
Memberships and green fee play were significantly higher universally, which is good for business and as far as I know there wasn’t a COVID-19 case connected to golf, certainly not in our region.
Golf Ontario says…
– Golf is safe.
– Golf is essentially a prime example of physical distancing.
– Golf operated last year under a clear set of safe protocols.
– Golf has important health benefits; it’s good for your heart, relieves stress, and can improve your mental health.
Plus recent articles from medical professionals across Ontario clearly indicate that outdoor transmission of coronavirus is extremely rare.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
