Provincial Police say an investigation is underway after human remains were located south of Mount Forest.
Wellington County OPP say officers were called to a location just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, when an individual had reported finding remains in the bush of a rural area.
Police did not disclose any further details about where the remains were found, other than to say the location was in Wellington North Township — south of Mount Forest.
“Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety,” a release from OPP explains. “The investigation is in the early stages and more information will be released when it becomes available.”
Police say a post-mortem examination will be conducted in an attempt to identify the remains and determine a cause of death.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Wellington County OPP Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario (OCCO).
