Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

I’m not sure if it’s the competitive drama, the aging factor or the pandemic, but I’m watching a lot more golf these days.
Sunday, I spent the better portion of what evolved into a very nice afternoon weather-wise inside watching the final round of The Masters
Hideki Matsuyama won the tournament by 1 stroke over youthful Will Zalatoris.
Winning The Masters is significant enough, but Matsuyama’s victory is notable as he becomes the first Japanese winner of the green jacket.
The belief is that Matsuyama’s victory will serve as a motivator to a nation and inspire a wave of Japanese golfers over the next generation.
Maybe. Maybe not. But you can’t discount the impact his title will have on Japanese golf.
Closer to home, how many young golfers are captivated by the success of Listowel’s Corey Conners ?
Sunday’s final round didn’t go nearly the way Conners would have liked it to unfold, but still a second Top 10 finish at The Masters by a Canadian, by a golfer who emerged out of Midwestern Ontario, has to send a clear message to countless youngsters that geography shouldn’t be a factor in chasing a dream.
And the great thing for golf fans of every description in every market, there’s another tournament on the horizon starting Thursday in South Carolina
For Pete’s Auto Body I’m Fred Wallace
