Public Health Grey Bruce is entering phase two of the provincial framework after having successfully administered over 36,000 doses of the COVID vaccine.
In a release issued Thursday April 8th, Public Health says 21 per cent of the approximate 150,000 eligible residents in Grey Bruce have been vaccinated, compared to 16 per cent of the Ontario population.
Having completed the first vaccination phase out of three, the Grey Bruce Health Unit released some of the milestones it has achieved to date, in long-term-care homes:
– 90 per cent of residents have received their first dose
– 85 per cent of residents have received their second dose
– 64 per cent of staff have received their first dose
– 56 per cent of staff have received their second dose
For retirement home residents:
– 92 per cent of residents have received their first dose
– 65 per cent of residents have received their second dose
– 61 per cent of staff have received their first dose
– 45 per cent of staff have received their second dose
The Health Unit also confirms 77 per cent of eligible First Nation residents within First Nation communities have also received their vaccination, with 28 per cent having received their second dose.
77 per cent of the higher risk healthcare population have been vaccinated, and all police, fire and EMS were offered their first dose.
82 per cent of residents 80 and older received their first doses, along with 61 per cent of those between 75 to 79, and 34 per cent of those within 70 and 75 in Grey Bruce.
According to the Health Unit, as they move through the phases of prioritization, the Hockey Hubs are being brought up to full capacity for mass immunization clinics.
Public Health says in the move to Phase Two, the prioritization guidelines dictate that vaccines will be made available to residents and groups based on both age and risk, including those aged 60 and older. They say this measure also features those in hot spot communities like congregate living settings.
