You can expect more restaurant patios in Goderich this summer, according to the town’s Mayor.
John Grace says the town rapidly approved a greater number of outdoor patios during the 2020 warm season, due mainly to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grace tells Country 104.9 News there is greater coordination with restaurants this year, to ensure they can provide a COVID-safe outdoor dining experience.
“We will make sure we are there to support the restaurants, and help them build their patios,” says Grace.
He says that means the town will have to provide some safety barriers for patios that are near vehicular traffic.
Officials with Goderich Town Hall will be speaking with restaurant owners this week, to discuss their needs ahead of tourism season.
In 2020, town officials delivered more than two dozen picnic tables to eateries, to allow for outdoor dining for patrons.
Grace expects nearly as many picnic tables will be delivered this year, but says patios will be more visible this summer.
