The new Barrie Small Business Tax Relief Grant program has been given initial approval by Council.
It would provide grants of up to $5,000 for qualifying small businesses to help with property tax costs during COVID-19 and lockdowns.
Mayor Jeff Lehman says restaurants, personal services, small shops, fitness and recreational services, and arts, culture, and recreation organizations are all eligible for the grant program.
He says it’s part of a broader economic recovery effort that includes: fee reductions for industrial development and affordable housing.
The Mayor adds that last night, council ratified funding for about $3M in financial incentives to support these projects and keep Barrie competitive.
