Premier Doug Ford is not happy that young people are now making up 50 percent of new COVID19 cases in the province.
Ontario’s Medical Officer of Health said yesterday that more young people are being hospitalized with severe complications from COVID-19 variants and being admitted straight into intensive care.
Dr. David Williams says the variants are far more dangerous for all age groups.
Williams says people need to follow public health measures until the pandemic is under control.
He said the risk of getting hospitalized with a variant is about 40 per cent higher than regular COVID-19, and the rate of death is also about 40 per cent higher.
Ontario reported nearly 2,094 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, along with 10 more deaths related to the virus, as its positivity rate surpassed six per cent for the first time since January.
New data from the COVID-19 science advisory table suggests the third wave of infections is already worse than the second wave — with variants of concern now accounting for nearly 70 per cent of all cases.
