Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.
Pete’s Auto Body; because we care about our community……
Today is a special day for Kincardine resident Jill Fraser.
Fraser who has a lengthy history in hockey, especially in the growth and development of Girls Hockey, is being recognized as a Hockey Canada Champion today.
The recognition is part of the Hockey Canada Community Program which spotlights outstanding dedication to the sport long term and in the near term for keeping the passion for hockey running in difficult times.
Fraser’s involvement in the sport dates back to her childhood when she played hockey, with the boys, at Tiverton.
Along with hockey, she played ringette which enhanced her sense of team unity atmosphere and served as the roots for a lengthy hockey run that included playing for the Saugeen Maitland Lightning, the Scarborough Sharks, Team Ontario and the University of Connecticut, where she played Division 1 women’s hockey.
Fraser stayed involved in the sport, no matter where she resided, and now with the Kincardine Kinucks organization she serves as the Third Vice President overseeing Girls Hockey along with being the OWHA Town Contact.
Over 40 some years, Jill Fraser has seen massive growth in hockey opportunities for girls, from being isolated as the lone occupant of a dressing room in boys hockey in the 1980s to today when towns throughout our region have girls teams in multiple age brackets.
She admits there’s more room for growth and development and based on her involvement then, now and going forward, Jill Fraser is recognized as a Hockey Canada Champion today.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace
