The Grand Bend & Area Chamber of Commerce is putting their support behind a residential development in the works, near Grand Bend.
Developers have plans for a subdivision on the east side of Highway 21, just north of Grand Bend, which is expected to be completed in five to ten years.
The subdivision is planned on what is now part of the Oakwood golf course and driving range.
While some nearby residents have raised concerns such a development is not needed for the town, or that water and waste resources cannot handle the additional residences, the Grand Bend & Area Chamber of Commerce believes the opposite.
In a news release, Chamber officials saying affordable housing is one of the two main barriers restricting the growth of business in Grand Bend — the other being public transit.
Chamber officials point to an influx of renovations and rebuilding of homes in Grand Bend, driving up living costs for would-be workers in the Lambton Shores town.
The Chamber also says environmental concerns were addressed when the new development was originally proposed.
