A very active stretch of days is underway for the Owen Sound Aquatic Club.
Starting yesterday and running forward for the next few days, the club is conducting their annual Swim-A-Thon.
The history of the Swim-A-Thon in Owen Sound and around the continent is lengthy and has served clubs well as a traditional fundraiser.
This year, with swimmers being locked down for months, the Swim-A-Thon may also be viewed as a water dam bursting, allowing the youngsters to do what they do and what they love best.
Owen Sound Aquatic Club coach Ken Fitzpatrick admits there’s a lot of pent up energy that will be let loose this week, all for the betterment of the club.
Going into the event, somewhere in the neighbourhood of $ 6,000 had been pledged and the club target was to dive past that total and approach 5 digits.
What would $ 10,000 in funds mean to the Owen Sound Aquatic Club ?
To begin with, it would aid in supporting one of their swimmers who has a solid opportunity to compete at a major international event.
And beyond that, the club would also like to purchase a kayak to upgrade their outdoor swimming program
