There is no schedule in place for Ontario Major Series Lacrosse, but their entry draft is scheduled for Thursday evening.
Normally, this would be of minimal interest for the bulk of our broadcast region, but with the former Brampton Excelsiors franchise now situated in Owen Sound, the local fan barometer is rising.
It would be terrific if Owen Sound could make a splash with an elite first round choice, but the fact of the matter is they don’t have a selection among the first 6 picks in Round 1.
Owen Sound currently has a selection in Round 2, which is 9th overall.
The ownership and management group of the newly located Owen Sound club obviously wants to raise their profile and raise it quickly, regardless of when the 2021 Major Series Lacrosse season commences.
To that end, people connected to the Owen Sound franchise are telling me the club is in pursuit of talented local product Adam Jones.
Jones, who last played in Owen Sound for the Woodsmen in 2007, is listed as an inactive member of the Peterborough Lakers.
The report relates the player likely to be exchanged in the deal if it gets finalized would be Mike Burke who had 14 goals last season for Brampton and whom Major Series watchers suggest was among Brampton’s best players in their last year of existence.
The Excelsiors are history. in the hearts and minds of almost everyone, the MSL Draft come Thursday will be the present and the future for lacrosse, like most amateur operations in Ontario, remains unseen.
