Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.
Pete’s Auto Body; because we care about our community……
Whatever you did last weekend, it likely paled in comparison to what Dylan Roote did.
Roote participated in the 4 by 4 by 48 Challenge.
What is that ?…………………………..
The 4 by 4 by 48 stipulates that those involved run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours, almost 2 marathons in 2 days.
Dylan Roote managed to do that….and more.
His brother, Curtis, who is the Deputy Chief for Saugeen First Nations Fire Department, related that not only did Dylan complete the challenge, but he did so wearing full firefighters PPE which added an additional 60 pounds to his frame for the run.
There was family concern prior to the event as Dylan Roote felt light headed and nearly fainted during training. He was encouraged to ditch the bunker gear and simply run.
Undaunted, Dylan Roote felt the paraphernalia would heighten the awareness of the charity of his choice; Wounded Warriors.
From a fundraising standpoint, Roote’s goal was to raise $ 2,000 for the cause which aids police, fire, EMS and veterans who are dealing with the strain created by their profession.
The determination and commitment to the cause certainly touched those around Roote and his fundraising campaign smashed the stated goal and generated in the neighbourhood of $ 3,000.
And as mentioned, the 4 X 4 X 48 Challenge is just 4 miles short of a double marathon in a 2 day span. Apparently, when Dylan Roote finished the Challenge, he did a ” victory lap ” and ran 4 more miles again encumbered by the full PPE.
So tell me again, what did YOU do last weekend ?
For Pete’s Auto Body I’m Fred Wallace
