A Kincardine councillor would like to see an elected official on the South Bruce Grey Health Centre board.
At a recent meeting of Kincardine council, councillors were still smarting over the fact that the CT scanner going into the Kincardine Hospital, is not the model they would have chosen.
It prompted Councillor Doug Kennedy to say he would like to see one elected official on the board from each of the four areas under the umbrella of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC).
Kennedy suggests candidates would not have voting privileges but could be aware of issues a lot sooner than what he believes took place with the CT scanner.
President & CEO of SBGHC Michael Barrett says 15 or 20-years ago, there were elected officials on hospital boards across Ontario but the boards have evolved into a skills-based board, looking to bring different skills to the table.
Barrett says the idea would be something for the board to entertain but it certainly hasn’t been talked about in recent discussions.
SBGHC is responsible for hospitals in Kincardine, Walkerton, Chesley and Durham.
