Manslaughter charges have been laid in connection with an overdose death in Barrie.
Police say on the morning of Tuesday, February 23, they were made aware of a 25 year old man who was brought to RVH without vital signs, after attending a party in Innisfil.
Investigators determined alcohol and illegal drugs were consumed at the party, where the man went into medical distress and it was learned he had consumed fentanyl.
A couple of days after the man’s death, police say a 36 year old man from Innisfil was arrested.
He is charged with:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, contrary to Section 5(1), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Manslaughter, contrary to Section 236(b), Criminal Code of Canada
- Fail to Comply with Probation, contrary to Section 733.1, Criminal Code of Canada.
After appearing for a Bail Hearing on Friday, the accused was remanded into custody and is next scheduled to appear next at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on Friday, March 26, 2021.
