Emergency services were called to a structure fire on Highway 6/10, north of Rockford Friday afternoon.
Inter-Township Deputy Fire Chief Andy Redmond says the call came in just after 2 p.m. from the homeowner, who was doing welding in the garage when a spark ignited a small blaze that started to crawl up the wall.
Chatsworth firefighters were also called in as a precaution.
Redmond says the homeowners had the fire mostly extinguished by the time firefighters arrived on scene.
A father and his son were checked out by paramedics for smoke inhalation at the scene and cleared. No one was injured.
Redmond says the blaze caused minimal damage and was contained to the garage.
A section of Highway 6/10 was closed near Story Book Park Road but has since re-opened.
Editor’s note: a previous version of this story said two people suffered minor injuries. New information asserts two people were checked at the scene, but weren’t injured.
